Museum History

The museum was established in 1968 with some items from the Orrell Andrews Collection.

The doll museum is housed in a quaint building that is over 100 years old. It was first used as a church, but has been remodeled to display over 1,000 antique dolls, toys, and doll furniture. The items are shown in an array of interesting scenes.

Orrell Andrews, a St. Joseph teacher at the Junior College, left her very extensive doll collection to the St. Joseph Museum. Since the museum was unable to display them, they went up for auction. A group of ladies raised money to purchase some of these dolls and started a non profit society called the "Society of Memories Doll Museum." By adding their own items, donated items, and lots of hard work by volunteers, the museum has developed into a beautiful place showcasing many wonderful antiques in interesting scenes.
